Panoramic Photo Collage Postcard

This "panoramic photo collage" was done by artist Masumi Hayashi in 1996.

The subject is beautiful ... but the reality is horribly sobering.

"Tule Lake Relocation Camp and Segregation Center, Klamath Falls Basin, California. Tule Lake was the site of one of ten concentration camps which housed Japanese Americans forcibly removed from the west coast states during WWII. In 1943 Tule Lake was chosen as the "segregation center" for persons answering "no-no" on the government loyalty questionaire. Peak population was 18,789 out of 120,000 interned."

  1. It blows my mind that the gentle Japanese folk who came to live here--made their life here--were treated like this.

Heart breaking to think the actions of their nation painted away the love these people had for their new country. This should NEVER have happened.

    Thank you for posting this.
