Where Were You?

When the mountain blew?

May 18, 1980 ...
Mount St. Helens in Washington state exploded.
Also, mom's 41st birthday.
Way to go, mom!!!

It was a Sunday morning, and we stopped at the top of the hill behind our house to watch the eruption. I will never forget that day.

  1. I can't believe it has been that long ago! I remember it well.

  2. I remember that so clearly, even from across the Atlantic. :)

  3. I was working as the foreman of a food processing plant. We heard a tremendous explosion, so we all ran outside to see the black smoke billowing up. I will never forget that day.

  4. I was living in Amsterdam at the time and I remember many people wanting to ask me about it - except that I was from the other end of a different country (Ontario, Canada) and had never heard of this mountain until then!

  5. I can still remember going to the park the following week to work on some artwork, and hearing the pitter patter of ash on the pages of the sketchbook.
