This postcard was put out by the United States Postal Service (USPS). The design was also used as a postage stamp.
"The Best Friend, built for the Charleston & Hamburg Railroad in South Carolina in 1830, was the first locomotive to draw a train in America. The stamp design was based on artwork by Richard Leech."

THIS is a very cool postcard! It seems familiar to me. Happy PFF, Sissy! ((hugs)) See you in about an hour! Wahoooooie!
ReplyDeleteFascinating design. Built in 1830! Wow.
ReplyDeleteI do love industrial history. How cool is that, 1830 would be just one year after Stephenson ran the Rocket at the Rainhill trials.
ReplyDeleteI like mail related postcards. I would like to see more postcards of mailboxes and mail related things on Postcard Friendship Friday, but I am not very interested in pictures that aren't on postcards.
ReplyDeleteThis is unusual! I don't think I have ever seen a design for a postcard that is also used for a stamp! A significant piece of history on the postcard! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
Love this postcard! The fact that this design was also a stamp is really neat.
ReplyDeleteI think the USPS might be underappreciated, in terms of its contributions to history, design and art. Cool postcard!
ReplyDeleteNeat card. I like transportation cards ... all the different methods. Cool card! Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteGreat graphics against that stark white background. Very special card. I think Mary may be right about the postal service not getting its due.
