Happy PFF Friday - Mt. St. Helens and Portland, Oregon

This card of "home" has traveled all over the world with me. It shows Mount St. Helens in the background, and the Fremont Bridge and Portland (Oregon) in the foreground. It appears to have been taken at the Rose Test Gardens up in the West Hills.

Since the Fremont Bridge was opened in 1973 and Mt. St. Helen's catastrophic eruption that blew the top off the mountain happened in 1980, this picture was taken sometime between those two dates.

I do know that I kept this postcard with me for many years and many miles. Now I get to actually "send" it!

  2. I absolutely love the way the slope of the bridge is repeated in the slope of the mountain. It's one of the most beautifully composed postcards I've seen in awhile.

  3. That is a pretty picture. I remember seeing pictures of the destruction after the eruption but I didn't know it was so pretty before.

  6. Beautiful postcard with the view on the bridge, the city and the volcano. Your memory about Portland and the card's history made me feel melancholical in a fine way. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Sissy! I LOVE this postcard! Do you remember camping on the mountain when we were teens? It was one of my favorite camping trips from those days.

I remember the day the mountain blew. The ash fell from the skies for days--landing with soft grep plops onto my drawing paper.

  9. Wonderful memories you are carrying around in a postcard. I remember when the mountain erupted too' not direct experience, but everything in the Uk that was out of the ordinary was blamed on the eruption! :)
